Home > Travel Guide > Egypt > Kom Ombo > Kom Ombo Temple

Kom Ombo Temple is an unparalleled double temple in Egypt. It is located in Kom Ombo on the eastern bank of the Nile, 42 kilometres north of the Aswan Governorate. The temple was constructed during the Ptolemaic period and decorated during the Roman period. Kom Ombo Temple is dedicated to two triads of the arch-enemies: Haroeris and Sobek. The first triad consists of Haroeris, his wife Ta Senet Nofret, and their son Horus Nb Tawy, while the other consists of Sobek, his wife Hathor, and their son Khonsu. The temple is divided equally between the two triads: the left side is consecrated to the Haroeris triad, while the right one is consecrated to Sobek triad. Kom Ombo Temple has a rare scene of medical and surgical instruments such as curettes, scalpels, scissors, and others dating back to the Roman period. The temple also has some traditional religious scenes of Ptolemy kings with the triads of the temple and other gods and goddesses.
