Deir El Bahari is a complex of mortuary temples located on the Theban Necropolis on the western bank of the Nile in Luxor. Its name refers to a monastery built there in the 7th century CE. Mentuhotep II was the first to construct a mortuary temple on the site. Hatshepsut and Thutmose III also built their mortuary temples on the site.
Unfortunately, only some ruins of the temples of Thutmose III and Mentuhotep II remain. The mortuary temple of Hatshepsut was designed and implemented by the architect Senenmut. The temple consists of three terraces inspired by the design of the mortuary temple of Mentuhotep II. The temple’s walls have some beautiful scenes of the Punt expedition, which is believed to be located between Somalia and Eritrea. The land of Punt was famous for producing electrum, gold, ivory, and ebony.
