Montaza Palace and Royal Gardens
Montaza Palace, also called Montaza Royal Palace or Al Montazah by locals, is one of the most famous and beautiful palaces in Egypt. It is located in a district that bears its name, "Montaza," overlooking a beach on the Mediterranean Sea. There are two palaces on the grounds of Montaza Royal Gardens. First, the Salamlek Palace was added to Montazah Palace in 1892 by Khedive Abbas Helmy II to serve as a hunting lodge for the Khedive and his friends. King Fouad I built Haramlik Palace in 1932 to be a summer resort.
Following the dissolution of Egypt's monarchy as a result of the Free Officers movement, some presidents used Salamlek Palace as their presidential residence, including Anwar El Sadat and Hosny Mubarak.
