The High Dam is one of the world’s largest dams. It was built across the Nile in Aswan. Construction began in 1960, following the 1952 Revolution, during the reign of President Gamal Abd El Nasser. The High Dam was completed in 1970 and officially inaugurated in 1971. The dam was designed by the Soviets and implemented by the famous Egyptian company Arab Contractors. The main aim of the high dam was to control flooding, provide water for irrigation purposes, and generate hydroelectricity. The High Dam plays a major role in the culture and economy of Egypt.
