Philae Temple is one of the most beautiful temples in Egypt. It’s located on Agilkia Island in the reservoir of the Old Aswan Dam along the Nile. The temple was located on Philae Island, near the First Cataract of the Nile. The Egyptian government decided to dismantle and move the temples of Philae Island to Agilkia Island with the assistance of UNESCO because they were flooded and covered with Nile water after the erection of the Aswan Low Dam in 1902.
The most ancient monument on the island is a temple built in the reign of Nectanebo I. Philae Island is famous for the great temple of Isis, started by Ptolemy II. Some walls and columns of the temple were erased by Christians who converted the temple into a church. The island also has temples dedicated to other deities, such as Hathor, Harendotus, Imhotep, Mandolis, and Arsenophis.
